What is role of disposable suction irrigation system?

The disposable suction irrigation system is an essential surgical instrument, which is used during laparoscopic procedures. Here we are going to introduce the role of disposable suction irrigation system/set in detail.

Background

The traditional surgery has been gradually replaced by minimally invasive approach, due to its weaknesses, such as large incision, heavy bleeding and slow postoperative recovery. But in the meanwhile, laparoscopic surgery requires surgeons with high skill level and relies heavily on the quality and advancement of surgical instruments.

The laparoscopy is an operation performed in the abdomen or chest through several incisions around 1cm according to the position and needs of the case. A fine light source, laparoscope and surgical instruments are introduced into the body through trocar and the surgeon operates by viewing the monitor that is connected to the laparoscope.

Role

In the procedures, bleeding is unavoidable. The blood and other exudates would severely disturb the operative view. The surgeon may not see the field that they expect to see through the screen. As a result, the disposable suction irrigation system must be adopted to clear the field of view to ensure the procedures progress smoothly. In addition, it can be used to find bleeding points.

Introduction

The disposable suction irrigation system is an important auxiliary surgical device in laparoscopic surgery. It is the flow and control pivot for the external (saline) and internal (blood and exudate) fluid. The green button is irrigation. By pressing it, the saline flows through the front metal probe and into the operative filed that needs to be cleared. Then the probe is inserted in the abdomen for suction. By pressing the white button, all the fluid including the blood and saline is drawn into the negative pressure drainage bottle. This is how the suction irrigation system is used to complete the procedures. It can be repeatedly performed based on the needs.

The suction irrigation system is also featured with blunt dissection. So the probe can be used to dissect the tissues directly, which eliminates the need to change instruments and saves the time. For more details, please watch the following video.

About manufacturer

Homeport Medical is the first manufacturer in China that develops disposable suction irrigation system in 2010, which can completely substitute the reusable one in laparoscopic surgery. It avoids cross infection, minimizes the workload of sterilization, effectively shortens the surgery time and significantly improves the success rate of laparoscopic surgery.
